Libra is an AI workspace for lawyers built around chat-based research and drafting, reusable "assistants" for recurring tasks (statement of claim, settlement agreement), multi-step workflows, first-pass contract review against internal standards, and batch "discovery" extraction across document sets.
Libra Technology GmbH was founded in Berlin in 2023 by former Freshfields lawyer Viktor von Essen and Danish software engineer Dr. Bo Tranberg. Wolters Kluwer Legal & Regulatory agreed to acquire the company on November 14, 2025 for up to EUR 90 million (EUR 30 million upfront, the remainder deferred against performance targets) and completed the acquisition on November 19, 2025. In January 2026 Wolters Kluwer launched the Libra Legal AI Workspace in the Netherlands, and it has since integrated authoritative German legal content โ legislation, case law, commentaries, and journals from Wolters Kluwer Online and Otto Schmidt โ directly into the product.
The workspace connects to firm document stores (Kleos, SharePoint, OneDrive, with Google Drive and iManage listed as coming), and Word and Outlook add-ins are part of the Professional plan. Libra reports more than 1,200 legal teams using the product.
On data handling, Libra's security page states customer data is "NOT used to train or improve AI models" and is "NOT stored outside the EU or EEA," and the company reports ISO 27001 certification and GDPR compliance. Libra does not publicly disclose which foundation models sit underneath.
Pricing is published on the vendor site per user per year, but access to partner legal content requires a separate content subscription that is not priced publicly.
