Spellbook is an AI copilot for contract drafting that runs as a native add-in inside Microsoft Word, rather than a standalone web app. It suggests contract language, flags missing or unusual clauses, and benchmarks clauses against a database the company reports as covering over 2,300 contract types.
The product is aimed primarily at transactional lawyers — in-house counsel and small-to-midsize firm practitioners handling commercial agreements — who want AI assistance without leaving their existing drafting workflow. Spellbook (originally launched as Rally, in St. John's, Canada, in 2018, and rebranded in 2023) reports over 4,000 legal teams across 80+ countries using the product as of 2026.
On data handling, Spellbook's security page states it has negotiated zero-data-retention agreements with both of its model providers, OpenAI and Anthropic, so customer data in requests and responses is not persisted or used for training. The company also reports SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, and CCPA compliance.
Spellbook's enterprise tier reportedly carries a minimum commitment period rather than a published seat count, and does not publish list pricing.
